As part of the health reforms confirmed by Cabinet in March 2021, it was agreed that the voice of whānau would be elevated and strengthened and be a key feature of the health system.
You will be able harness, facilitate and support the voice of whānau and consumers and ensure you elevate whānau voice and make it visible in the mahi of Te Aka Whai Ora, Iwi Māori Partnership Boards and service providers.
With your existing connections and networks, you will be able to connect whānau voice at a local level, into the Iwi Māori Partnership Boards (IMPB).
One of your key roles is to gather whānau (hapu, iwi, hāpori Māori) voice into locality planning, priority setting and monitoring of the system at a local level.
You must not only be able to establish these national networks such as LBQTQ, Kaumatua, Tane, Rangatahi, Tangata Whaikaha Māori etc) but also be able to link the local networks to IMPBs.
You have the opportunity to grow and manage Te Aka Whai Ora’s Whānau Voice network, by overseeing the recruitment and employment of Whānau Voice leads for Tangata Whaikaha Maōri, LGBTQIA, Rangatahi, Tane, Wahine and Kaumātua – support them to identify, connect with and establish national networks (formal and informal) for each population group to partner with Te Aka Whai Ora.
About you | Ngā āhuatangaYou will have
- Strong understanding of health planning particularly in a place-based approach and collective impact
- Expertise in Whānau Māori and community participation & engagement
- Extensive understanding of the New Zealand health reforms agenda
- Wide knowledge and experience in working with Māori
- A relevant tertiary or post graduate qualification and significant relevant work experience
- Understanding of machinery of government processes
- Experience leading a national team of technical experts to influence positive transformation and change (cultural, attitudinal, policy, services)
- Fluency (or commitment to fluency) in Te Reo Māori is preferred alongside of an understanding of the application of mātauranga Māori in the workplace
- Understanding of Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
- Adaptable to changing environments and competing demands
- Ability to solve problems through to resolution
