The opportunity - Te tūranga

In this senior brand-new leadership role reporting to the Executive Editor, News & Current Affairs, the focus will be to oversee the further development and delivery of the bespoke Rautaki Māori for the newsroom. 

You will provide editorial insight and oversight to News and Current Affairs with regards to te Ao Māori. Working collaboratively with the senior editorial team, you promote an enhanced awareness of the importance of Māori perspective and voices in news coverage. 

Ensuring that te reo Māori and concepts from te ao Māori are used and presented appropriately within NCA and that story opportunities from the Māori community and/or involving Māori voices and perspectives are brought to life across all platforms and shows.

We are open mined in how this role can be shaped as well as the opportunity for it to be a part time role or job share. 

What we're looking for - Tā mātou e kimi nei

The Kaiurungi Māori Partnership Editor will have a strong background in journalism, good judgement and an effective writer and editor across Aotearoa, global news as well as an understanding of the digital landscape

You'll be skilled at collaborating with and influencing across a broad stakeholder base and enjoy developing and sustaining relationships. Strong mana-enhancing relationship management skills - ability to build and nurture important relationships both internally and externally to the Te Reo Tātaki are critical for the success.

To be successful in this role you will also need:
  • A thorough knowledge of and familiarity with te ao Māori
  • A tertiary qualification in te reo Māori or equivalent competency
  • Expertise in introducing cultural competency /Te tiriti based programmes in organisations
  • Familiarity with the news media, its role, functions, and methods.
  • Experience working in the news media
  • Ability to remain focused on the critical actions in a strongly deadline driven, change orientated industry.
